| ნიუ მექსიკოს პროფესორების მეორე წარმატებული ვიზიტი | Another Successful Visit by New-Mexico University Professors | ||

ოქტომბრის თვეში აკაკი წერეთლის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტში ინგლისური ფილოლოგიის დეპარტამენტში სტუმრად კვლავ იმყოფებოდნენ ნიუ მექსიკოს უნივერსიტეტსის ინგლისური და ამერიკული ლიტერატურის პროფესორები ჯეიმს და კონი თორსონები. შეგახსენებთ, რომ მათი პირველი ნაყოფიერი ვიზიტი შედგა 2013 წლის აპრილში, როდესაც ფილოლოგიის ფაკულტეტის ინგლისური ენისა და ლიტერატურის სტუდენტებმა მოისმინეს ლექცია-სემინარები ცნობილ ამერიკელ მწერალ კურტ ვონეგუტზე და მსოფლიო ლიტერატურაში ”ინდიელთა რენესანსი” სახელწოდებით ცნობილ ლიტერატურულ მიმდინარეობაზე. გასულ წელს ასევე ლექტორ-მასწავლებლებს მიეცათ საშუალება მოესმინათ საინტერესო ლექცია-სემინარი ლიტერატურის სწავლების მეთოდებზე, სადაც პროფესორმა თორსონმა გაგვიზიარა საინტერესო მოსაზრებები იმის თაობაზე, რა და როგორ უნდა იკითხებოდეს სასწავლო კურსი ინგლისური ფილოლოგიის შესავალი.
ამერიკელი ფულ ბრაიტელი პროფესორი ჯეიმს თორსონი გახლავთ გერმანიის სამი უნივერსიტეტის მოწვეული პროფესორი, თანამედროვე ენის ასოციაციის პუბლიკაციათა რედკოლეგიის კონსულტანტი (PMLA), პიროვნება, რომელსაც მსოფლიოს ოცდაათზე მეტ უნივერსიტეტში აქვს ლექციები წაკითხული. ჩვენთვის კი განსაკუთრებით სასიხარულოა ამ ადამიანის დიდი ინტერესი საქართველოსადმი, ჩვენი ქვეყნის ისტორიის, კულტურისა და ლიტერატურისადმი. სტუმრობის პირველი კვირის განმავლობაში პროფესორმა ჯეიმს თორსონმა წაიკითხა ლექციები კლასიკურ ამერიკულ დრამაზე და განიხილა იუჯინ ო’ნილის, ტენესი უილიამსისა და ართურ მილერის შემოქმედება. აგრეთვე ჩატარდა სასემინარო-პრაქტიკული მუშაობა სტუდენტებთან მილერის დრამაზე „მძიმე განსაცდელი“. იმავე კვირაში ჩატარდა ლექცია მაგისტრებისა და დოქტორანტებისათვის თანამედროვე ლიტერატურული კრიტიკის პერსპექტივებზე, სადაც განხილული იქნა ტრადიციული და თანამედროვე სკოლების მიდგომები მხატვრული ტექსტის ანალიზზე. პროფესორმა გაგვიზიარა საინტერესო მოსაზრებები ობიექტურ და სუბიექტურ ლიტერატურულ სკოლებზე, ისაუბრა თანამედროვე ეკლექტიკურ მიდგომებზე ტექსტის ანალიზისას. ვიზიტის მეორე კვირას პროფესორმა ჯეიმს თორსონმა წაიკითხა ლექციათა ციკლი ადგილობრივი ამერიკელი (ინდიელი) მწერლების შემოქმედებაზე, მათ რომანებსა და პოეზიაზე. ეს ლიტერატურული მოძრაობა, რომელიც მსოფლიო ლიტერატურათმცოდნეობაში მოიხსენიება სახელწოდებით ”ინდიელთა რენესანსი”და სათავეს იღებს XX საუკუნის 60-იანი წლებიდან, ნაკლებადაა ცნობილი ქართველ მკითხველთა და მკვლევართათვის. პროფესორმა თორსონმა ქართველ მსმენელს გააცნო სკოტ მომადეის (Navarre Scott Momaday) შემოქმედება. აგრეთვე ჩატარდა სასემინარო-პრაქტიკული მუშაობა სილკოს მოთხრობებზე და ინდიელთა ხალხურ პოეზიაზე. ჩვენი სტუმარი კმაყოფილი დარჩა სტუდენტთა აქტივობა-ჩართულობით და მათი სწრაფვით გაეგოთ და გაეთავისებინათ განსხვავებული კულტურა, ტრადიციები და ლიტერატურა. კვირის ბოლოს ჩვენმა სტუმარმა წარმოგვიდგინა თავისი ხედვა ნოდარ დუმბაძის პიროვნებასა და შემოქმედებაზე. ქართველი მწერლის პიროვნებაში პროფესორ თორსონს განსაკუთრებით ხიბლავს ის ფაქტი, რომ მიუხედავად საბჭოთა კავშირის შემზღუდველ გარემოში ცხოვრებისა და მოღვაწეობისა, ამ მწერალმა შეინარჩუნა ქართული სული და ლაღი იუმორი. პროფესორ თორსონის მეორე სტუმრობა ჩვენს უნივესიტეტში, ისე როგორც წინა წელს ძალზე ნაყოფიერი და მრავლისმომცემი აღმოჩნდა ინგლისური ფილოლოგიის სტუდენტებისა და აკადემიური პერსონალისათვის. ჩვენ მოგვეცა საშუალება, გავცნობოდით თანამედროვე ლიტერატურულ პროცესებსა და ლიტერატურის სწავლების ახალ მეთოდებს. ამავდროულად, გვქონდა ბედნიერება გვესაუბრა საოცრად განათლებულ და ნიჭიერ ადამიანებთან, რომლებიც ხალისით გვიზიარებდნენ თავიანთ გამოცდილებას. ასოც.პროფ. თამარ

In October the guests of the Akaki Tsereteli State University Department of English
Philology were Professors of English and American Literature
from New-Mexico University, the US, Connie and James Thorson.
Their first visit to Kutaisi took place in April, 2013 when the
students of the Faculty of Humanities majoring in English Language and
Literature had an opportunity to listen to a series of lectures
on the famous American writer Kurt Vonnegut and an interesting
literary movement known as "The Native American Renaissance".
The staff of the Department and PhD Students could also listen
to the lecture on "Teaching Literature to Students of English"
during which Professor James Thorson shared his ideas on
Introduction to the Professional Study of English. There was
also a lecture "Some Coordinates of Literary (and Art) Criticism
with Thanks and Apologies to Professor M. H. Abrams" for
graduate students on research and criticism. It was a very
interesting and educative lecture on traditional and modern
critical approaches to literature. Fulbright Professor James Thorson, an outstanding Educator of America, author of many books and articles, editorial consultant to Publications of the Modern Language Association (PMLA) at present is a visiting Professor of some Universities of Germany. He has taught at more than thirty Universities in different countries of the world. We were delighted to know that such a distinguished scholar got very interested in Georgia, its history, culture and literature. This year in the first week of his stay in Kutaisi Professor James Thorson delivered lectures on Classical American Drama and discussed with listeners the life and works of the famous American Playwrights Eugene O’Neil, Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller. There was also a lecture-seminar on Arthur Miller’s Drama “The Crucible”. Masters and PhD students were delivered a lecture on Perspectivism in Modern Literary Criticism in which James Thorson introduced traditional and modern critical approaches to the literary text, sharing with listeners his interesting views on Subjective and Objective Literary Schools, and spoke about the use of modern eclectic methods in critical reading.
During the second week Professor James Thorson delivered lectures on Native American Writers, their novels and poetry. This literary movement known in world literature as “The Indian Renaissance” began in the 60s of XX century and is not well-known for Georgian readers and scholars. The American guest introduced the life and works of Navarre Scott Momaday, the founder of this movement, “the writer who started a Renaissance and is still adding to it”. There were also seminars on Silko’s stories and folk poetry of Native Americans. Professor Thorson liked our students’ openess to other cultures and their great interest in different literary traditions. At the end of the visit students and the staff of the Department of English Philology were greatly impressed with Professor Thomson’s lecture on Nodar Dumbadze’s works. By applying a term "survivance" (survival and resistance) to Nodar Dumbadze’s life, he made an emphasis on the fact that in spite of the Soviet regime the writer could survive and preserve his Georgian spirit and kind humour.
The second visit by Connie and James Thorson to our University went very well and like the first one was also very productive and beneficial to the students and the staff of the Department of English Philology. We had a great opportunity to get updated to current literary processes and modern approaches to literature. | პირველკურსელების ინგლისური ენის კლუბში გაწევრიანება | First-year Students Join the English Speaking Club | ||

ინგლისური ფილოლოგიის დეპარტამენტის ინიციატივით შექმნილი
ინგლისური ენის კლუბი (English Speaking Club) ორმოცდაათ წელზე
მეტია, რაც არსებობს. კლუბის მიზანია სტუდენტთა ინგლისური ენის
ცოდნის ამაღლება, ბრიტანული და ამერიკული ლიტერატურის შესწავლა და
ინგლისურენოვანი ქვეყნების კულტურის გაცნობა.
ინგლისური ენის კლუბი ყოველწლიურად მრავალ ღონისძიებას მართავს. წლევანდელი წლის პირველი ღონისძიება პირველკურსელებისადმი იყო მიძღვნილი. პირველი კურსის სტუდენტები ინგლისური ენის კლუბში საზეიმო ვითარებაში გაწევრიანდნენ და მათ სტუდბილეთებიც გადაეცათ. ღონისძიებას ესწრებოდნენ აკაკი წერეთლის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტის რექტორი, პროფესორი გიორგი ღავთაძე, რექტორის მოადგილე, ასოც. პროფ. შალვა კირთაძე, ჰუმანიტარულ მეცნიერებათა ფაკულტეტის დეკანი პროფესორი ირმა ყიფიანი და ფაკულტეტის აკადემიური პერსონალი. ღონისძიებაზე ასევე მოწვეული იყვნენ საპატიო სტუმრები ამერიკის შეერთებული შტატებიდან, პროფესორები ნიუ მექსიკოს უნივერსიტეტიდან - ჯეიმს და კონი ტორსონები და ფულბრაიტი ალექს ლენგსტაფი.
პირველკურსელების ცნობა იოლი იყო, რადგან მათ თეთრი მაისურები ეცვათ წარწერით "I love EPD" (მე მიყვარს ინგლისური ფილოლოგიის დეპარტამენტი). პირველკურსელების წარმომადგენლებმა თავიანთი ჯგუფები სტუმრებს წარუდგინეს. სტუდენტებმა აღნიშნეს, რომ აკაკი წერეთლის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტმა მათი მოლოდინი გაამართლა და ისინი აღფრთოვანებული არიან აკადემიური პერსონალით, რომლებიც ღონეს არ იშურებენ, რომ სტუდენტებს მაღალი დონის ცოდნა მისცენ. მისალმების შემდეგ პირველკურსელებმა ცეკვისა და სიმღერის ნომრები წარმოადგინეს. უცხოურმა სიმღერებმა და სინქრონულმა ცეკვამ დამსწრე საზოგადოების დიდი მოწონება დაიმსახურა.
ტრადიციულად, პირველკურსელების ინგლისური ენის კლუბში გაწევრიანება ფიცის დადების საზეიმო ცერემონიალით შედგა. წარმოგიდგენთ ინგლისური ენის კლუბში გაწევრიანების მსურველთა ფიცის ტექსტს: ვხდები რა ინგლისურ ენაზე მოლაპარაკე კლუბის წევრი, ვფიცავ, დიდი ენთუზიაზმით დავეუფლო ინგლისურ ენას. გპირდებით, ჩამოვყალიბდე პროფესიონალად და ღრმად შევისწავლო ბრიტანული და ამერიკული კულტურა, ლიტერატურა და მეცნიერება. ვფიცავ, ვიყო კლუბის აქტიური წევრი, დავიცვა მისი წესდება და ტრადიციები, მის ყველა საქმიანობაში მივიღო მონაწილეობა. გპირდებით, კლუბში შეძენილი ცოდნა გამოვიყენო ახალგაზრდა თაობის აღზრდისა და განათლებისათვის ქართველი ერის საკეთილდღეოდ.
უფროსმა კურსელებმა პირველკურსელებს კლუბში გაწევრიანება მიულოცეს. მათ ისაუბრეს საკუთარ გამოცდილებაზე და სტუდენტებს სასარგებლო რჩევებიც მისცეს. უფროსკურსელმა სტუდენტებმა გაიხსენეს წინა წლის ღონისძიებები და ,,შექსპირის კვირეულის" გასაცოცხლებლად შექსპირის ცნობილი სონეტები წაიკითხეს. სტუდბილეთები სტუდენტებს რექტორმა, ამერიკელმა სტუმრებმა და ჰუმანიტარულ მეცნიერებათა ფაკულტეტის დეკანმა გადასცეს. მათ პირველკურსელებს ბედნიერი სტუდენტობა და წარმატებული სასწავლო წელი უსურვეს. სტუდენტები განსაკუთრებული ოვაციით შეხვდნენ ინგლისური ფილოლოგიის დეპარტამენტის დამფუძნებელს პროფესორ მადონა მეგრელიშვილს. ქ-მა მადონამ სამომავლო პერსპექტივების და ხარისხიანი განათლების მიღების აუცილებლობის შესახებ ისაუბრა. ღონისძიების დასასრულს სტუდენტებმა უკვდავი სტუდენტური ჰიმნი ,,გაუდიამუსი" შეასრულეს. დიდი მადლობა ინგლისური ფილოლოგიის დეპარტამენტს ასეთი ლამაზი ღონისძიების ორგანიზებისათვის, რომელიც პირველკურსელების მოგონებებში სამუდამოდ დარჩება. იმედი გვაქვს, ინგლისური ენის კლუბის მომავალ ღონისძიებებში პირველკურსელებიც აქტიურად ჩაერთვებიან და მას ახალი ენერგიით აავსებენ. თამთა

Initiated by the English
Philology Department the English Speaking Club has been
functioning for more than fifty years. The club is aimed at
developing English Language skills, studying British and
American Literature and getting to know cultures of English
Speaking countries.
The club organizes several events every year. This year the first meeting was dedicated to the first-year students who joined the English Speaking Club in a festive atmosphere and then received their Student Membership cards. The event was attended by the Rector of Akaki Tsereteli State University, Professor George Gavtadze, Vice-Rector, Associate Professor Shalva Kirtadze, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Irma Kipiani and academic staff of the faculty. There were also invited the guests of honour from the United States of America, Professors from New Mexico University – James and Connie Thorsons and Fulbrighter Alex Langstaff.
It was easy to recognize the freshmen wearing white T-shirts with the inscription "I love EPD" (I love English Philology Department). The representatives of first-years presented their fellow-students to the guests. Addressing the audience the students noted that Akaki Tsereteli State University met their expectations and that they liked their teachers who did their best to give the students a high level of knowledge. After greetings the first-year students also demonstrated their abilities of dancing and singing. The audience enjoyed foreign songs and a synchronous dance greatly.
Traditionally, the first-year students took an oath of the English Speaking Club the text of which is the following: Joining the English-Speaking Club, I pledge myself to be an ardent and genuine enthusiast of the English language. I promise to upgrade professionally, to develop my cultural awareness and to enlarge my knowledge of British and American literature, art and science. I pledge to be an active member of the club, to observe its traditions and regulations and to take part in all its activities. I also promise to apply my knowledge acquired in the club to the cause of bringing up and educating our young generation for the prosperity of the Georgian nation.
The senior students congratulated the freshmen on joining the English Speaking Club and gave them some pieces of useful advice. They also read Shakespeare’s sonnets as part of the famous celebration of "Shakespeare Week" last spring. Then first-years received student membership cards handed over to them by the Rector, American guests and the Dean of the faculty of Humanities. They wished the freshmen a happy student life and success in their studies. The students met the founder of the English Philology Department Professor, Madonna Megrelishvili with a great ovation. In her speech she made an emphasis on the future perspectives and the importance of good education. At the end of the meeting the freshmen sang the students’ anthem "Gaudiamus".
We would like to thank the Department of English Philology for organising such a wonderful event, which will remain in the freshmen’s memories forever. We hope that they will be active members of the club and inject a new energy in it. Tamta
